Spoiler free Summary:

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have only ever read one other historical novel before, so this was such an interesting ride for me. The Pirate’s Booty is an exciting read about a lesbian having to do a she’s the man and disguise as a male pirate to rescue her best friend. I loved how the author took overdone plots and totally mixed them up!

I feel that a lot of LGBT books out there really lack action. It seems as though people assume LGBT can only apply to contemporary novels, but I LOVED the action that was weaved int this story. I mean you cant have an awesome pirate adventure without a fight or two!

The character development was outstanding. I felt like I could really get into the story since she made these characters so personable. Quinn/Kieran was definitely much different and refreshing from any other characters that I have read in the past.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this interesting take on a pirate adventure!

Spoiler free Summary:

Here I go again reading a contemporary novel. Once again I came across this book and thought it sounded interesting, so I decided to give it a try. I was actually amazed by how much I enjoyed this book! This book actually is somewhat based around baking, which is something that I have always said I would do if I hadn’t chose English instead.

The book is centered around Becca, the main character, who is has returned to her home town to have a fresh start and open up a bakery. Then comes in Eli, the new owner of the restaurant across the street, who has also recently returned to town with his young son. Becca and Eli have typical bantering at the beginning, but once Eli realizes he is being ridiculous they begin to start a romance. Bring in a an evil ex-wife, drama, and controlling older brothers and you have the perfect mixture for an awesome romance read.

I really enjoyed the whole concept and the beautiful execution of this book. I am starting to think that I actually do like contemporary novels, I guess I just had to find the one that fitted me. It was very evident that the author is passionate about baking, considering the amount of detail about baking that was included. I would definitely suggest this book to anyone looking for a nice romance to cozy up with, don’t make any day plans you will be sucked in!

Spoiler free Summary:

I’m typically someone who sticks to anything and everything paranormal. I came across this book and was very intrigued. This is a topic that was covered not only in my history classes in college, but also my women’s writer class (I was an English Lit major). Hysteria is something that many women were accused of and sentenced to places such as the Mary Magdalene Hospital. Women could go there for things such as being a prostitute, pregnancy out of wedlock, and any man wanting to commit a woman.

The book started off with Katherine, the main character, who is forced to seek a doctors attention for the problem of not being able to bed her husband after 8 months of marriage. She is sure that the doctor is going to accuse her of hysteria and give her surgery or commit her. Then when she gets to know Dr. Hershaw and she discovers that he is truly wanting to help her. Bring in a mistress, drugs, and a budding romance and you have the perfect mixture for a historical romance that you cannot put down until the end.

I really enjoyed the ideas and concepts that the author put into the making of this book. This is a part of history that I had some background knowledge on and this really built off of that. It was very evident that the author did a lot of research into the making of this novel. I would definitely suggest this book to anyone looking for an intriguing historical romance!

so i married a sorc.jpg

Spoiler free Summary:

I discovered my love for Kerrelyn Sparks in November and have blown through all of her books. This is the second book in the Embraced series. I put off reading this book for awhile because I knew once I finished it that I would have to wait until March for the next book to come out. I am always looking for romance paranormal books. This book is the perfect mixture of historical romance and paranormal romance.

The book started off with Brigitta, the main character, on her way to see her adopted sister, Luciana, who was going to give birth any day. While on the boat the navy, to a bordering country, shows up to take her. The nuns with her suddenly inform her that she is the missing princess to this country who is believed to be dead. Then the infamous pirate Rupert shows up and blows away the navy ships. Birgitta decides to sacrifice herself to save her sisters and willingly goes with the pirates. Birgitta knows there are secrets aboard this ship and is intent on uncovering them.

This story was very thrilling and different from the usual Kerrelyn Sparks books I am used to, it was very refreshing and exciting! I really enjoyed the creativeness and thrill that she put into the making of this book. There were definitely some plot twists that I did not see coming and I loved it! Once again her brilliant writing skills shine through in this book.

I would definitely suggest this to anyone looking for a new paranormal romance to read. I am excited to continue the series in March!

Midnight Magic

Midnight Magic

Author: Jo-Ann Carson

Genre: Paranormal, Romance

Goodreads Summary:

Midnight Magic: A Ghost & Abby Mystery

Ghostly Charms, Magic Spells and Secrets.

As the janitor in a haunted house, single mom Abby Jenkins has many contacts with the living and the dead in the small Pacific Northwest town of Sunset Cove, which puts her in a perfect position to solve local mysteries. Or so she thinks. Hired to find diamonds hidden in a haunted manor she gets help from a Viking ghost with existential issues. Will she survive? This book contains bad-boy ghosts, mischievous magic, and a woman who knows what she wants in a Viking hayloft.

Spoiler free Summary:

I am always looking for new romance paranormal book. This being because this past year I really discovered my liking to them. I stumbled across Midnight Magic and thought the plot sounded like nothing I have ever read before in the past. This book was such an interesting take on the typical private investigator plot. It has a little bit of paranormal for everyones taste from sexy viking ghosts to blood sucking beings to witches.

The book started off with Abby, the main character, looking to start up her new private investigation service in the town of Sunset Cover. Her current job is being a janitor and is not enough to support her children, especially since her boyfriend is a viking ghost and cannot make any money. Then it switches to her boyfriend who is seeking out a way to become human once again so that he may be with Abby. Bring in a dark sorcerer and an investigation job to find secret jewels and you have the perfect concoction for a page turning paranormal book.

I really enjoyed the ideas and the concepts that the author put into the making of this book. I love when I can find a story that truly intrigues me and is out of the box thinking compared to other that you find in its genre. If an author tries to mimic others with a slight difference it really turns me off from wanting to read it.

I would definitely suggest this to anyone looking for a new paranormal read. I am sure I will end up read the next one in the future!

The Becoming of Noah Shaw

In the first book of the Shaw Confessions, the companion series to the New York Times bestselling Mara Dyer novels, old skeletons are laid bare and new promises prove deadly. This is what happens after happily ever after.

Everyone thinks seventeen-year-old Noah Shaw has the world on a string.

They’re wrong.

They’re right.

noah shaw quote.jpg

Spoiler free Summary:

I had no idea that this book was a thing and when I saw it on social media I was so pumped. I immediately ordered it on amazon and the other day I decided that it was time to finally read it.

The book starts off with a bit of interest because they are at Noah’s dads funeral and something peculiar happens. Since it was an interesting start I was expecting it to be an action packed and intriguing book that would measure up to the Mara Dyer trilogy. Then they get to New York and there were some new characters that seemed to be adding a helpful hand into the making of the book. In this book you are truly able to decipher parts of Noah and Mara’s relationship that you had not thought of before. They have both been through so much trauma that could traumatize a person for life. Throughout the whole book it seemed that the author was building everything up in a good direction and that the book was going to be mind blowing. Then … nothing. I kept thinking that this book would be so awesome because of the Mara Dyer trilogy, but it never came. I mean the end of the book I didn’t see coming, but it still didn’t make up for the lack of action throughout most of the book. I love Michelle Hodkin, but I felt like she had many missed opportunities in this book.

This book was suspenseful and mysterious, but a bit underwhelming. I was so pumped to read this book thinking that I would finally get to know what happens to everyone and finally get into the beautiful and intriguing mind of Noah Shaw. I really wanted it to be good, kept waiting for that moment like the other books where I just could put it down. That moment I was looking for never came. My only hope is that the next book in the series will have me more interested, especially since it had an interesting ending.

This has not made me doubt Michelle Hadkin’s writing. In my opinion it is just very hard to follow up an awesome series with another series based around the same world.

Kerrelyn Sparks

I have recently returned from a 3-week vacation and while on vacation I got addicted to Kerrelyn Sparks’ Love at Stakes series. I had read the first book in the series, How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire, back when I was in high school because I had gotten it on my kindle for free. Back then I didn’t know that it was part of a series. I have re-read it a couple times since and the last time I looked it up and saw that it was a series. From there I have read almost every book, I am on what I believe to be the last one.

One thing that I truly appreciate about Kerrelyn Sparks is the fact that she totally re-imagined the way we think about vampires. When you think of vampires, you will typically think about books such as Twilight and the Vampire Diaries. This author obviously put great thought into the making of the series, not wanting to conform to the norms that most authors do when writing a vampire novel. One thing that really sticks out to me is the fact that the vampires are not aloud to be around during the day because they are literally dead. That’s right, they have this thing called a death sleep where they are dead when the sun is up. I don’t know how she came up with some of the details she uses, but that is one of the reasons that I fell in love with her series.

Vampire GIF

Something that I feel a lot of authors lack creativity and that is what will pull readers in, especially if you want them to go and buy the rest of the books in your serious. I mean one way to get people to read books is to offer the first one for free on the kindle. Though the only way to get them to go and buy the second book is to pull them into the story with your creative and ability to create an intriguing plot line that keeps readers on the edge of their seat. I cannot tell you how many first books in series I own on my kindle because they were just so bad. Many people have to offer their book for free because otherwise no one would want to read it. I don’t mean to put anyone down or anything, but you are always better off to think through you plot and such before even putting anything down. Why make a book if it won’t be read?

I am a person who reads a lot more young adult than romance. Considering that I think that Kerrelyn Sparks is a brilliant author and I will definitely be looking into her other series. To anyone out there I would suggest reading her Love at Stake series!

Let me know if I should review the individual books in the series!

the Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

Author: Michelle Hadkin

Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult, and Romance

Cover Rating: 4/5

Aesthetically, I thought this cover was beautiful. I loved the underwater aspect, it was almost as if she was drowning in all of her hardships and life and she needs saving. Though I didn’t feel like it tied into the book as well as it could of. It would have gotten a 5 if it would have tied into the novel well and been as beautiful as it is!

Goodreads Summary:

Mara Dyer believes life can’t get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.

It can.

She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her strangely unharmed.

There is.

She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.

She’s wrong.

Spoiler free Summary:

This book has been in my Goodreads want to read section since I was in high school. I am now graduated from college… ya it has been there for awhile. I never actually read it back them because from the description I thought that it didn’t sound much like something that I would typically read. Though I was recently on Book Outlet buying books, as I usually am, and saw it and it was cheap and heck I put it in my cart. Then yesterday everyone on twitter made the decision for me, it was finally time to read it. I finished it in about 12 hours (counting sleeping)!

The book starts off a bit slow because it is just the main character, Mara, waking up in a hospital bed and not knowing how she got there. It is mostly explanations and introductions in the beginning. Things start to spice up when she moves to a new town and starts at a new school. First she meets Jamie, a sweet and somewhat nerdy guuy a bit on the short side. She likes him because he does not adhere to the societal standards that the other students have set at this private school. She has been through much trauma and doesn’t want to be around any pretty bichachos. Thing start to look up for her. Then she meets Noah, the school’s bad boy, he is everything she shouldn’t want but does. Things start to get super good at this point, I couldn’t put my book until I finished at this point. you will have to pick it up to find out what happens next!

This book was suspenseful, mysterious, and wonderful. It was the book that I didn’t know that I needed to read. DO NOT JUDGE BY BOOK BY DESCRIPTION. For years I didn’t read this because I thought that the description didn’t sound much like a book that I would typically read. Man was I wrong! This was exactly my cup of tea. I would definitely suggest this to any lovers of paranormal and mysterious reads. This book will draw you in with the mystery and you won’t want to put it down until the very last word!

I already ordered the next two books in the series. I will have the reviews of them up as soon as I can! Michelle Hadkins is an amazing writer and I am definitely going to read everything by her. Go read this book!
