Throwback Challenge: ACOMAF

I can officially say that A Court of Mist and Fury is still my all time favorite book!

Sarah J Maas packs all of the best parts of books into one! It has an amazing plot line, unbelievable character development, knock your socks off romance, and stunning world building. Some books that are the size of this one have too many events in them typically in my opinion,  but even plot point in this book is perfectly planned out and every event deserves and is required throughout this book. Most authors have all of the character development with the main characters finished by the end of the first book, it is amazing how Sarah J Maas develops character even further in the second book.

I think that this series is one of the best fantasy novels for sale. Sarah J Maas is just such an amazing author and cannot compare to any other books I have read, and I have read a lot. I would say the closest is Cassandra Clare, who is also a stunning writer. If you haven’t read the ACOTAR series, drop what you are doing and go buy this STUNNING series!!

If you have read them, what is your opinion on the series?

What book should I read next? (Hunger Games, Warcross, P.S. I Like You, When It’s Real, Eliza and Her Monsters)

Life Update!

I am so sorry that I have been absent for so long! About a year ago I started dating my boyfriend and got in a BIG reading slump. I blame my boyfriend for distracting me😜

Here is what has been going on in my life:

April 2019- I started dating my friend who I had known since October and had no clue he liked me😂

May 2019- I went on a cruise to Alaska with my best friend.

June 2019- I joined a co-ed softball team with my boyfriend! I mostly kept score because I SUCK at softball!

July 2019- I moved into a house with my boyfriend!

August 2019- Took my boyfriend to his first Major League Baseball game. This was a huge deal for him because he is obsessed with sports and baseball is his favorite!

September 2019- I took my boyfriend to the fair I have worked at every year since I was a kid.

October 2019- I quit my job and was unemployed for my first time since I started working, but I won a costume contest at our local bar as pennywise!

November 2019- I got a bartending job at a ski mountain. It is actually very hard to get a bartending position right away because there are only 4 and I was so amazed that I got it!

December 2019- First Christmas with my boyfriend and both our families was absolutely amazing!

January 2020- Spent the month working non stop, at one point I worked 14 day straight!

February 2020- First valentines day with a boyfriend ever! I just made him buy all my favorite candy and we had a steak dinner!

March 2020- This is when sh*t got crazy! I got laid off due to coronavirus. I got another job and after my first day idaho got shut down.

Ever since march I have been unemployed and at home. All I have been doing is play my switch, watching tv, and reading. I am going to try posting on here at least once a day!

What has everyone else been up to?

Best New Fantasy: A Curse So Dark and Lonely

Author: Brigid Kemmerer

Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult

Goodreads Summary:

In a lush, contemporary fantasy retelling of Beauty and the Beast, Brigid Kemmerer gives readers another compulsively readable romance perfect for fans of Marissa Meyer.

Fall in love, break the curse.

It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.

Nothing has ever been easy for Harper Lacy. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she’s instead somehow sucked into Rhen’s cursed world.

Break the curse, save the kingdom.

A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.

Spoiler free Summary:

Oh. My. Gosh.

This was such an amazing book! It is a retelling of beauty and the beast and the author did an amazing job. It reminded me of A Court of Thorns and Roses, I would say if A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury were one book, this is it!

Harper gets thrown into this amazing alternate universe and is thrust into the throws of this dying kingdom called Emberfall. Harper is such an amazing and dynamic character. She is the badass female that I love seeing in these types of YA novels. She wont take no for an answer and does whatever she wants. One thing I love that the author did is that she gave the main character a disability, but in no way does she let that effect her life. She has cerebral palsy, which in the case of this character gives her a noticeable limp. It is something that, in my reading experience, has not been done in a YA fantasy novel.

The world building also blew my mind. Brigid Kemmerer is spectacular at describing this universe so well that you can picture everything in your head. I need to see a map of this fantasy land immediately because of how much I have fallen in love with it.

This book is one of those books that has you turning each page until you have read the last word. Then once you finish, you just want more. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way, and the ending blew my mind!

If you have not ordered this book, you need to go do so immediately!

Bookish Tattoos

Bookish tattoos are my favorite thing. I am constantly looking at them on instagram. I actually have four of my own!

Current Bookish Tattoos:

The mortal Instruments

tmi.jpeg

As you can probably tell by my blog name, I am a huge fan of the mortal instruments. I read it for the first time at 16 and one quote always stuck with me. This was “All the stories are true.” Then when I was 18 in college my friend wanted to get a tattoo, so I decided to spur of the moment get the quote on my foot. Honestly, looking back I wish I had put more thought into it because I didn’t know the font or size I wanted and let the artist pick it out. Luckily it turned out pretty well.

Bibliophile

bibliophile.jpeg

When I was looking through bookish tattoos when I was 16 I found one where bibliophile was tattooed on a wrist. I loved this because then you can see bibliophile every time you are reading a book. I knew I wanted it, but waited until my 21st birthday when I finally got it. I am glad I put more thought into this one, unlike my first one. I ended up getting it in my favorite font and moved it a little from where it was on my inspiration picture.

A Court of Thorns and Roses/Percy Jackson

acotar.jpeg

I read A Court of Thorns and Roses when I was 19 and ever since it has been my favorite book and I wanted to get a tattoo for it. I have loved the night court symbol since I read A Court of Mist and Fury and wanted to incorporate into the tattoo. I started looking up ACOTAR tattoos for inspiration. I found one that I liked, but I wanted it a little different. I ended up drawing my own design and giving it straight to the tattoo artist. The night court symbol is for ACOTAR, lotus flower is for Percy Jackson, and the crescent moon is sailor moon because my sister and I watched it constantly as children.

Harry Potter

deathly hallows.jpeg

Harry Potter has been a huge part of my life since the first movie came out when I was 5. It was the first fantasy movie I had seen and my dad read the books to me when I was little. I always knew I eventually wanted a Harry Potter tattoo since it always been so important to me. I didn’t want it to look like the deathly hallows that everyone else has. So, I asked my artist to try to get it to look similar to my ACOTAR tattoo.

Nerdy Tattoos that I Want:

Book Tattoo

As you can tell from my current tattoos I love floral tattoos. I love this one because it incorporates books and floral. It also really reminds me of beauty and the beast!

Throne of Glass

Throne of glass is another series that holds a dear place in my heart. I have debated back and forth if I want a Throne of Glass tattoo. The only reason I wouldn’t get it would be because I already have another Sarah J Maas tattoo. Currently I am leaning more towards getting it, but we shall see!

Star Wars

This isn’t book related, but I have loved Star Wars since I was little and have always wanted a light saber tattoo. I think this will be my next tattoo. I am deciding between behind my ear, on my finger, or on the opposite of my wrist from where my bibliophile tattoo is.
