Shiver

Shiver

Author: Maggie Stiefvater

Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult

Goodreads Summary:

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can’t seem to live without.

Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human… until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It’s her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human—or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

Spoiler free Summary:

This book has been so hyped up for me over the years. I first heard about this when I was 14. I have heard mixed reviews, mainly good, but my sister read it and didn’t like it. Therefore I never read it, but recently I received it in my reddit book exchange, so I decided it was finally time to give it a go.

I think the idea that the author had for this book was very interesting and out of the box for the time that it was written in. I love how the characters had gotten to know each other on a deeper level for years before truly meeting. Though the beginning is so interesting, the rest of the book can get a bit muddled.

I think that the author was really onto something amazing, but she jus … ran out of ideas? It just seemed that there were about 100 pages of utter nonsense, I mean this in the nicest way, but I just felt that there was so much blubber added in just to make the book longer. I mean readers aren’t going to punish you for making a shorter book. I think it is better to have less pages of something awesome than more pages of something that will become sub par because you ran out of ideas.

Shiver was okay and I would suggest people to read it if they enjoy werewolf books. I have heard that the second is a lot better, so I am hoping that it will change my mind. This is a novel heard towards lovers of fantasy and love at first sight.
