I am sure all of you have heard of the new company Story Book Cosmetics. If you are a nerd like me you have been constantly seeing their things, I mean unless you’ve been living under a rock.
I have invested some of my money into them because they sucked me in. Their products are just so beautiful! So I am going to tell you guys what I think of the products that I have received!
The wand brushes were the first thing that they released. I remember when they first released that they were going to make these there were articles EVERYWHERE and it was even trending on Facebook. I was actually following the owners, who are triplets, on Instagram for years before this because they each at different fandom shops before making their new company.
- Wand Brushes
I debated getting these when they first came out, when they looked like actual harry potter wands. I ended up not getting them because I didn’t want to spend $55 before tax on them. Then I regretted and when they came back saying they were going to sell more I woke up at the exact time and ordered them. Though when they had the second batch, it no longer looked like the harry potter wands. I am assuming from what I read that it was because of copyright issue. This meaning that they did not get the rights to copy the want shapes from the harry potter movies, therefore if they didn’t change them then they could have gotten sued by the company.
I was so sad that these took so long to ship out, since I did the preorder. It turned out that once they actually shipped I had just left for Mexico a month two days prior. So I had to wait a whole MONTH to get mine! I finally got home and opened it and it was beautiful! These brushes are so nice looking that Iwas in love. The only thing I wasn’t expecting was how heavy they were! I think my favorite thing was the beautiful velvet bag that it came with and their logo on it. Don’t even get me started on their logo!
I moved on to testing these babies out. After some testing I decided how I was going to use each brush and it went on very nicely. I love the blending brush, it works so well! I would say my least favorite thing about them is that they are white/purplish at the end of the brush. I wish that they would have just made them all black so that you couldn’t see the gross colors that the eyeshadows dye the brushes.
Overall, I think the triplets did a very well job designing these brushes. You know they put hard work into making these brushes perfect. If you ever want to see their process, they are constantly posting on their Instagram throughout their process.
2. Horror and Adventure Lipsticks
So these lipsticks came out a couple months after I got my makeup brushes. I didn’t have much interest in these when they first started talking about these because they didn’t have much bookness (my new word) to them. Though after they were constantly posting about it and said they would only be $14 I decided to try them since I love liquid lipsticks.
This one arrived while I was in Hawaii for my friends wedding. I got this and ripped open the package and loved the color! I think I currently own about 5 different red liquid lipsticks and this actually happened to be a slightly different color. I then went and tried it on. Usually before I put lipstick on I will put vaseline on for at least a couple minutes then wipe it off and put my lipstick on. I didn’t for this because I was in a hurry and the first thing I noticed was that it had a slight alcoholic feeling when I put it on. It stung for a second, but was fine after that. Though the next time I used vaseline before and I was totally fine, so I would suggest moisturizing before applying these lipsticks. I would say out of all the liquid lipstick I have tried this one was most similar to colourpop ultra matte liquid lipstick.
I later got the adventure color (gold) when I got the palette because there was an offer where it came for free. I put this color on and oh my god it looks HORRIBLE on me. I am 100% sure it is my pale skin and dark hair, they do not go with gold! I think ill save this color for halloween or a funny youtube video. Though I think this color would look gorgeous on people with darker skin, I just wish it was a little more gold and a little less yellow.
Overall, I think this is a pretty good lipstick, but if you have dry lips I would not suggest it for you. I don’t think I will try anymore of their colors because I don’t think that they would look good on my skin (super pale). Maybe in the future 🙂
3. Wizardry and Witchcraft Palette
I recently ordered this when I was working for my friends at their kettle corn booth at a fair. I received $55 in tips and was like I am finally ordering it! I kept putting it off because it was about $55 and I thought that was a little steep considering that I will not wear all of the colors. I think I have a habit of ordering their products while I am out of town.
So, I received this palette when I got home and the packaging is beautiful! I forgot to mention on both the lipstick and this one I received book marks with them! I am always in need of a bookmark and I think thats such a smart idea for free advertisement. I opened the palette and the first thing I have to say is that I LOVE that they added a mirror. That is the only think that I hate about my other palettes that I love, they are cheap, but don’t have a mirror.
On to the colors! I think the browns and burgundy colors are really good for an everyday look. The other colors are really cool looking, but they will only work with special looks and the green for example is a color I would only wear for like halloween or a video. Overall I think they did a fairly good job at picking the colors. Then they named all of them very unique names, but they also tied back into the over arching theme of the palette. Also Mandy is the one who wrote out all the color names because she taught herself to letter for her wedding. Being a person who does lettering as a hobby I think it is so cool that she did that.
I only have two complaints about this palette. The first is that the palette is a little too bulky for me. I get that its bulky because they wanted it to look like a book, but I feel it could have been a little smaller and still look like a book. I am just sad about this because I cant fit it in my makeup bag, like I can with my other palettes. My second complaint is that the colors aren’t very pigmented. It takes quite a bit more layers than my favorite brand, Juvias Place, to get the look that I amgoing for. But I mean the fact that I only had two complaints is not that bad!
Overall, I think this is an awesome palette! The fact that it mixes my two favorite things, books and makeup, makes it the best palette ever! I would suggest this to any book lover.
I love this brand and am sure I will order more of their nerdy makeup in the future! I will be making a youtube video in the near future on me testing out these products for you!
