Spoiler free review:
Do you like faeries? Do you like fantasy? Do you like hot guys? The this is the book for you! I didn’t expect a lot from this book because it was one of my many free books on kindle. When you get a book for free on kindle it is typically one of two things. One the author is self published and trying to suck you into the first book in their series so you will buy the second, or two they just aren’t that good at writing. I always hope for the first, but there are always some cheesy books thrown into the mass.

Julia Crane and Talia Jager really surprised me with this book. It is about Rylie, who is your typical teenager, until the night before her birthday a stranger comes knocking on her door. She comes to find out that she is a faery! Another big surprise is that when she wakes up on her 16th birthday, she will have developed into a full faery. This mean wings and pointy ears are on the way. To learn more go read her book for free on kindle!

SPOILERS AHEAD:
The story starts off with Rylie living a normal life. She begins to get headaches. She just writes it off as it being a random thing. The day before her birthday some knocks on their door. She addresses herself as Rylie’s birthmother. At this point I was think wha wha whatttt because all I knew was that the book was about faeries. Then her parents try to dismiss her because her mom had given birth and claims there is no way that could be true. Her birth mother, Azura, says that she had actually switched the children at birth because their real child was dying. The reason she switched them was because Rylie was born with a rare mark on her face.

She goes on to tell Rylie that once she turns 16 that she will fully develop into a faery. They tell her to leave and Azura tells Rylie that if she needs her to just stand in her window and she will come.

The next morning Rylie wakes up and has a mini freak out because her vision is all blurry, but it finally clears and she thinks all is right in the world cause she feels the same. Then she steps up and goes to the mirror and discovers that she has wings, pointy ears, perfect skin, and her star birthmark (aurorian mark) seems to be glowing. She can’t figure out how to glamour herself to look human so she gets Azura to come back. Azura tells her how to do it.

She attempts to go on living her life in a glamour. She has her party and it all goes fine. Then the next morning her and her mom go shopping for clothes that will fit her wings better. While at the mall she gets startled because she spots another faery.

That night she gets snatched by two guys that whisk her off to the dark faeries. The reason for this was that her father had made a deal for her life in exchange for access to dark magic. This is the reason her mom had to switch her. If I was her I would be pissed off.

She discovers that the king wants her to marry his son Kallan. The king wants this because then she can never use her aurorian powers against their kingdom. She refuses and the king decides to lock her up without food until she agrees to start listening. Once she finally gives in days later she begins to get to know Kallan somewhat more. She finds out his power is manipulating the mind. When her and Kallan go to the waterfall together she thinks in her mind that she wants him to kiss her and he does. Since she thought it sh thought her gift was the same as Kallan. Later she begins to try it again and she finds out that her true power is absorbing the powers of those around her.

She ends up hearing a conversation between Kallan and his father telling his father that he will not marry her and would rather her dies. She runs to Kallan’s art studio he had shows to her, she decides to uncovers the painting and is shocked to find her face. Honestly, I was not expecting this because she had assumed that the painting was of the girl he liked and he had not given much of a clue that he was super into her. Kallan finds her and is angry, but then tells her he was just testing his fathers limit, he does not truly wish for her to die.

Kallan then takes Rylie and tells her he is going to help return her to her home. part of the way there they here his father approaching and go invisible, but his finds them anyways. The light faery servant that had been assisting Rylie goes on to help her. She proposes that a smart idea is that Rylie will have the until the age of 18, a proper adult in her world, then she will return and marry Kallan. Rylie agrees to this hoping that by 18 she can find a way out. After this Kallan escorts her until Azura takes over and returns her all the way home. She find out that the weeks that she was in the faery world, only a couple days had passed in her world. Her parents are so relieved to have her returned home. That is all for this book.

Last Thoughts?
This is honestly one of my favorite free books that I have gotten on the kindle. I thought Kallan was kind of a Deutsche at first but he grew on me, grew on me like a good fungus haha. I think her human boyfriend Adam is a bit of a snooze. I am totally team Kallan. I can’t wait to read the next book.I love these kind of books that will throw a curve ball at me that I was not expecting. Julie Crane and Talia Jager are one of those authors that surprise you because when you think free kindle, you think it is probably because they aren’t a very good author, but she is definitely a good author.

Until next time!
